The market in Bergerac

The Saturday market in Bergerac takes place around the great church as well as on the square in front of the préfecture. Various producers present their homegrown fruits and vegetables, but also foie gras and other typical French specialties.

On the nearby parking lot at Place de la République, markets and other nice events are often being organised. The Italian market for instance, which takes place once a year, in the week of August 17th. Bergerac has friendly ties with the Italian town of Faenza, and every now and then, many Italians come over to sell their delicious cheeses, meat products, olive oil and pannetones to get a real French/Italian party started. This is very nice to visit.

For a good lunch, it is better to go a bit deeper into the city center, strolling through the many little sidestreets, which will make you pass numerous good little restaurants.
On the square overseen by the statue of Cyrano de Bergerac, you can enjoy the busy town life in the summer, but food-wise, it is not a highlight of the city.
